DESCRIPTION:The Ability Garden is inviting families and friends to the Arboretum for a fun-filled day of adventure with interactive and educational stops around the gardens! Children can get passports stamped as they ride on the Shriners train between stations with different activities. Last year’s event attracted more than 200 children and parents. This is a community-based event with participation from many volunteers and area non-profits.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our first Autism Friendly Day! This will be a day of discovery designed for children and adults living with autism and their families. \nExplore the Aquarium using your senses. Activities will include nature walks (weather permitting)\, live animal programs\, a sensory exploration room\, quiet dive program\, calm space for families\, guest guide passports\, and local autism support organizations. \nSpace is limited for our nature walk and live animal programs. Families will be able to register for the nature walks and live animal programs on the day of this event. \nFor more information please call Susan Matthews at 252-247-4003 extension 271. \nThe event is free with Aquarium admission. SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Movie
DESCRIPTION:Our Jacksonville Carmike Cinemas (located behind the Jacksonville Mall) have teamed up with us to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy the new movie release Paddington 2”\, in a safe and accepting environment. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for our unique audience\, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down\, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free\, casein-free snacks\, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Concession stands will still be open for drinks and snacks. Additionally\, audience members are welcome to get up and dance\, walk\, shout or sing-in other words; Carmike’s “Silence is Golden” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned. The fee is $5 per person. Tickets are sold the day of the event at the concession stand at Carmike.
